Life Bonds Binding Words Series Book 2 Audible Audio Edition Daniel Schinhofen Andrea Parsneau Daniel J Schinhofen Books Reviews
- I don't like the main character. He's kind of a bitch. Also, the author tends to add more fluff to his stories than actual, meaningful content.
- When I read the first book in this series I was absolutely in love with it, however in this book I am completely disappointed and I hope that the next book is better. My two main issue's for this book where first that the whole book is essentially used to develop the relationship between Sean, Myna, and Fiona. Other than developing a relationship not a lot of actual story happens and Daniel uses the same method through the whole book which is the group has an issue happen in a town, they leave the town aaaaand have another issue happen in the next town, rinse and repeat. Honestly this makes the book a bit lackluster compared to book one where Sean spend's his time helping, learning, and testing new skill's.
My second issue and also what I think is a larger issue than my first issue would be the relationship between the trio. First I should say that I don't have an issue with the relationship itself but rather with how Daniel enacted the whole situation in this book. While in the first book Sean and Fiona spent a good part of the book getting to know each other and actually developing something and while Myna was introduced there really wasn't anything going on between Sean and Myna in book one. In book two it is explained to the reader that when a lifebonded and a holder create their bond they will eventually come to love each other if there is the slightest bit of interest between the two people. When this begin's to happen between Sean and Myna Sean flat out say's no because he is already in a relationship with Fiona which is ok however Fiona has little issue with this happening and even work's to bring Myna into the relationship, later on after Myna is brought into the relationship he refuses to sleep with both them together when the ask him to due to REASON'S. Now that I have the background information laid out my issue's with this situation is two-fold, my first issue is with Sean and his reluctance to include Myna even when he develop's feelings for her. When I was reading Alpha world (by Daniel for those who don't know) the mc their had an actual reason as to WHY he didn't want to be in a relationship with more then one woman and he even had to work at getting around his issues to even really consider the idea of being with more women at once. In this book Sean takes TWENTY SEVEN CHAPTER'S to actually start a relationship with Myna that he was avoiding due to..... reason's. Now the second issue that I had in this book concerning the relationship between the trio has to deal with the lifebond. As I stated previously Sean spend's twenty seven chapters pulling his crap together and to get over freaking out about being in a relationship with both Myna and Fiona HOWEVER in all that time that Sean is having issue's with being in a relationship and later sleeping with two women at the same time NEVER does he stop to freak out about the fact that the lifebond is brainwashing him into loving a woman he has no interest in at all at the start of this book.
In total I think the book was ok in an overall sense and I will still read the next book in the series. I do think however that the overall plot in Life bond's was nonexistent beside's getting away from the starting town. On the other hand while I don't mind the relationship between the trio I think that the whole start up between the three of them need's to be redone or for Sean to have a better reason to avoid starting a relationship with Myna other than REASON'S. - *May contain some spoilers*
It is highly disappointing to see the way the author has taken this book. The first thirty to forty percent of this book is slow with nothing really going on. This is fine if it pushes the story into the right direction. There are a lot of spelling mistakes and poorly formed sentences that truly give the impression the author just gave up. For example; "Dark Cutter (a shape shifting weapon) cut through the beast like butter, punching straight through its heart." I'm really impressed an axe is punching anything, and this won't be the first time butter is used as a reference in this context. "The creature went limp as Dark Cutter punched through its spine." These are two of the biggest examples that stuck with me. There are many more poorly constructed sentences throughout the book that do need to be addressed.
One of the biggest problems with this book is how the main hero goes from town to town with problems always following him. He has no counter to match his skills and strength, no matter what happens you know there is no real danger with his rapid healing that he extends to the other two females. The writer made the main hero too strong and set the bar of adventure way too high for himself and his writing style. The book had a lot of potential and it becomes alarmingly clear even the writer has realized his own limitations with the book. This is one of the reasons I personally find the book just ends. There is no cliff hanger ending that is going to make you want to read the next one, after struggling with reading this one.
What took me back the most was at the very end he claims to have two editors and a large group of people who read the book before he put it out. Its really hard to fathom the idea that no one said anything to him about how poorly this book is tailored together. It really feel like the author threw up on his audience and left without saying a word. I truly hope he finds better editors or a better group of people who can honestly tell him what needs improvement. - We find Sean and his companions journeying through various towns causing all sorts of shenanigans. This book was a full on slice of life and while it didn't have the adventure of the first book, you really got to know sean, myna, and fiona. I loved the character building and the subtle hints at what is to come in the future for the 3. 5/5 hair clips, would wear again.
- This was an excellent continuation of the first book, with one flaw.
That flaw was the game the author played regarding the life bonds and the main character. In Morrigan's Bidding we read as Sean fell in love with Fiona, but his first life bond partner turns out to by Myra, as he saved her from dying using some of his overpowered talents.
But here the one main problem comes in. Life bonds were explained in book one to gradually cause the two participants in the bond to fall in love, so Fiona and Myra both expect Sean to eventually take Myra to bed with him. I can understand his initial resistance, but once Fiona is bonded, he continues to fight something he can't win, and his justifications were not impressive.
It was one of the worst angst-fests I've run into in a while, and one that was far less justified than many I read.
Other than that, the story is very strong. The characters are well developed and clearly grow during the story. The action scenes are crisp and make sense, and there are no real "deus ex machina" events. Some of the villains aren't exactly smart, but that wasn't too big of a deal in my opinion.
I'm looking forward to book 3, so this definitely deserves 4 stars. I just hope we don't get another angst fest when the author tries to add another girl to the harem.
