"I’m sad to say, but this book feels like a bunch of missed opportunities. For some reason the sex scenes were more tamed than the previous books and a lot more one-on-one action. They also felt shorter and they faded to black often. I get the author was trying to deepen their connection even more, but I’m not sure how you can deepen a relationship when you’ve already deep-throated each other... After finishing the 2nd one it felt like Prax was trying to deepen the Grand Canyon.

Mark also did less in this one. In the first two he was always trying to do something. Most of the time he missed with his bow or got captured, but he did something. His purpose in this book was to narrate how much he appreciated the ladies’ bodies.

The antagonists were the biggest let-down. It felt cheap. Sure, I’ll accept the sci-fi change, but use the setting! You don’t have to go to space to find SEA pirates! Space pirates maybe? The noir setting, but flesh zombies? Both of these things exist in the fantasy genre so why even change to sci-fi?

Instead of skeletons, flesh people and maybe throw in a trist at that brothel. The squirrel brothel is another example. Roo seemed down for it. There were a couple times Mark and the girls could have and should have, but nothing? Lot of interesting erotica wasted. The justice chick had GLOWING nipples for crying out loud! Nothing? He banged the queen and watched Vale explore her friend in the previous. Why not more erotic adventures with beautiful women. #Concubines for Mark

I don’t know, maybe in the next one. If you can’t have an expansive sex life with mythical creatures in virtual reality where can you?"

  • Prax has done it again! By my estimation, "The Eros Expansion" far surpasses its predecessors, which were compelling reads in their own right. Prax has utilized a different strategy from many in the "harem" scene by introducing fewer female protagonists into the MC's seraglio. This has given the author more room to develop his characters and deepen the bonds between them. I also find the nesting of a game within a game (within a game) to provoke salient questions concerning sapience; what it means to live; and the importance of finding love (platonic, romantic, or otherwise).

As far as plot devices go, I loved the juxtaposition of early 1900s Chicagoan gangsters with space-age technology, as well as pirates. The scenery was incredibly evocative in its own right - de-fleshed mob characters evoked a truly ghastly visage - and provided a nice change of pace from the more traditional fantasy setting that initiated the series. Similarly, seeing Roo, Ahnix, and Vale immersed in this wholly different scenery was quite intriguing. It was a jarring anachronism, but executed well.

To conclude, I loved the book, and it's well worth a read. I eagerly anticipate the final volume & the author's future work.

  • I was fortunate to see the manuscript for this book slightly before publication. Regrettably, I was already behind on other projects and was unable to give suggestions to the author before publication. That being said, there is very little in The Eros Expansion that I would find fault with. Yes, there are a few mistakes every book has them no matter how many eyes look at the text.

About the first quarter of the book I really struggled to get into The Eros Expansion. I’ve read this book twice now well, technically three times if you count the early manuscript and twice reading the purchased copy. I have yet to identify just what I find lacking in the first quarter of the book.

The Eros Expansion takes a large turn from the first two books dropping fantasy characters into a Sci-Fi setting. I generally dislike fantasy mixed with Sci-Fi but there are a few authors who do it well enough that I read their books.

I don’t believe I have ever seen a giant Naga in space so that was something unique. Vale as always is my favorite character and I wondered if she would have trouble moving on smooth metal shipboard floors. Apparently Vale suffered no loss of traction as she moves quite effectively throughout the book.

My first reading of the manuscript and of my purchased copy of The Eros Expansion I found meh. It was during my third reading that I settled into the story. This book changes settings a lot more than the first two books. At first the different settings through me off a bit, but after another read I enjoyed the journey with the characters.

The author shows his creativity detailing unusual and different settings for traditional fantasy characters to experience. Several places where the author could have fallen into the usual tropes was skillfully avoided. Pirates in fantasy are generally there merely for hero cannon fodder, but the author competently used pirates in a unique way.

Ultimately, I just can’t put my fingers on just why I don’t enjoy the beginning of The Eros Expansion. My inability to enunciate my issues should not delay my posting of a good review for a worthy author. I am looking forward to the next book as this one ends on a nice cliffhanger with plenty of foreshadowing.
  • This installment of the Enthralled series is a bit different from the previous 2, but if you’ve read them I’m sure you know that this volume takes a big turn and the setting has changed. But if you liked the first 2 you’ll like this one, too.
  • I've enjoyed all of this series so far. To be honest, the sex scenes get to be a bit much at times, and I tend to skip past those pages when they come up, but the story, fight scenes and characters are a lot of fun, and there is enough depth and imagination in the writing to make me want to read on. On the other hand, a woman whose bottom half is a snake is always going to be gross no matter how lovingly the author describes her. Eww. Just eww. Bleh.
  • A good end to the story arc introduced in the first book. The group has beaten the first game, and has been thrown into a new world, now fully aware of what they are and what's going on in the real world. This was a fun read, and I am excited for the fourth book. The pacing works, and there's an air of desperation with all the characters aware that they are in fact characters in a game.
