Grave Destiny An Alex Craft Novel Book 6 eBook Kalayna Price Reviews

  • I loved the earlier books in this series. The author created a world I enjoyed learning more about, and love interests filled with depth and angst, as well as that lovely sexual tension build up to sealing the deal. Somewhere along the way, the author decided to remove that tension from the books. (Religious or something, I don’t know.) Now they have the mental space of adult romance, but with the under 18 filters. And it leaves much to be desired. They kiss passionately. Ok... but the tension is gone. Like, completely. What happened?! Not sure if I can stomach another adult-yet-not-adult G rated romance book from this author.

Too bad because I really was enjoying the Alex Craft series, but this was really the last mark against it. I came for romance. ADULT romance with steamy scenes and tension. I got... hints, very bland hints...blah.
  • Grave Destiny finishes up the story arc that started with the previous book. Both Dugan and Falin are at Alex’s side as they investigate a death in Fairie. This is the six book in the series and Price writes superb urban fantasy. For me I didn’t find this particular book as taunt a suspense/investigation as Price’s previous book plots. It plot happen mostly in Fairie and I missed the interaction Alex normally has with the mortal world, as several established characters were missing in this book.
One point I did love is that there is finally movement in Falin and Alex’s relationship. No, I’m not talking about movement between the sheets but real emotional connection. I feel I waited six books for this. Yes, the two have danced around each other and even have fallen in bed, but Death was always in the way. In the last book Death had his shot and his romance with Alex didn’t work.
I really hope that this series continues as Price has crafted a world with so many possibilities. She has a number of character secrets I want to see uncovered. The chief among them is who Alex’s father truly is. I want more of Alex fighting crime in Nekros. Yes I would love some sweating sheet sheet time between Falin and Alex.
So until then, I’ll sit patiently and wait for the next Alex Craft book.
  • .... I would like to see less wobbly legs, less exhaustion (she never gets enough sleep and every time she tries she gets woken up after a few hours), less nausea and less harping on her bad eyes. It's a constant. Every time she's in a situation these things crop up.

Also pertaining to this book, I don't appreciate when us readers are treated as imbecilles. I knew who the bad guy was less than 50% into the book and the struggle by Alex trying to figure it out was highly annoying.
  • Great new installment by Kalyana Price. I did not see that ending coming! Ms. Price is definitely not one of your predictable formulaic writers. I love how she actually lets her characters grow and show real emotion and not just have a super girl that can wake up and do it all. That is what brings the character to life. Alex has grown tremendously from book one. She knows she las limitations and lets others help her. She also knows she needs to learn her skills better so she seeks training instead of just winging it and hoping she gets it right. Since she learned of her face heritage she has had to learn how to navigate the waters of the fae life which is quite an undertaking and she is handling it quite well. There have definitely been some missteps along the way but that is what makes Ms. Prices characters more relatable.
  • Every book has a different enough focus to keep things fresh. This book is strong on its own but ties nicely back to earlier books with just enough references to orient you. I really hope there are more to come.
  • Loved this one from start to finish. If you like the courtly intrigue that the earlier books set up, you'll be really into this one. If not, it might move a little slow for you. Me, I'm all in for political backstabbing and navigating complex alliances and ancient fae traditions. There's hints of romance, not too much. I'd say just the right amount. And those last few chapters... I literally screamed "NO!!" out loud and scared my cat. I think in the space of 20 minutes, I was angry, scared, and then on the verge of tears. An emotional roller coaster ride.
  • I see that some people put this down but I absolutely loved it. I get sick of all the back and forth between relationships and different interest romantically. When you care about someone you don't want everyone else.yes this is a book but I actually enjoy the fact that it's more concentrated on one person and one person. I don't know I just really enjoyed the read love the ending I think she did a great job and I can't wait for more.
  • Not my favorite one by her, but it was worth the wait. I felt like she dragged everything out a bit too much for so long that it didn't matter how she wrapped up various plotlines, I was just left feeling a little annoyed.

On the other hand, she still delivered on excellent worldbuilding and character development, and the finale was definitely worth sticking around for. Hence 4 stars.
